What is marketing anyway?
When people think about marketing, most commonly they think of two things:
1. Selling - personal selling of goods and services
2. Advertising

Advertising and selling, however, are just two of the many marketing activities.

In general, marketing activities are all those associated with identifying the particular wants and needs of a target group of customers "the market", and then going about satisfying those customers better than the competitors. This involves doing market research on customers, analyzing their needs, and then making strategic decisions about product design, pricing, promotion and distribution.

By contrast, the act of selling is a one-to-one activity. A sales man is trying to determine which features or attributes of a product or service would most benefit the individual or individual company so that they will make a purchase.

Marketing is: an organizational function and a set of processes for creating, communicating and delivering value to customers and for managing customer relationships in ways that benefit the organization and its stakeholders.

What is Branding?
"A product is something made in a factory; a brand is something that is bought by the customer"
It not just about your logo and it’s much more than skin-deep.It’s driven by your business objectives and steered by effective marketing strategy and planning. To successfully achieve your business goals you need to market your ‘brand’ effectively.

A Managed Brand is a 'STRONG' brand

S – simple, clean, clear
there are many messages but don’t fall in to the trap of being all things to all men… stay focussed

T – trademark, owns its identity and personality
if you own your brand your competition can’t

R – repetitive, use it constantly and consistently
keep telling your cusomters you have what they want

O – objective, has a deliberate objective and meaning
be creative, but never lose sight of the business objective – re-check and measure

N – needs, speaks to target audience, it has what they want
your brand must be the customer’s choice for meeting their need

G – guidelines, a set of rules for consistent implementation
having invested in your brand set the rules for consistent messaging and implementation
